Earth Day Art Recycling Contest

Open to all Maricopa Residents

Maricopa residents are encouraged to take items from their waste basket and recreate them into an art object. The art objects submitted will be judged in both student and adult categories and winners will be given awards.

 

1. What is the purpose of the Art Recycling Contest?

The purpose of the Art Recycling Contest is to encourage Maricopa residents to recycle their trash instead of throwing it away.

 

2. Who can participate?

Maricopa students – Grades K-12 can enter the art contest.  Adults of all ages can also participate.

4. What is the entry deadline?

Artwork must be submitted to your local Recycling Association of Maricopa facility any Saturday between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm. Entries must be received by 2 pm Saturday, April 2nd, 2011 to qualify.

 

5. What are the prizes?

Judges will choose one winner from each of five different categories – Grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12 and Adult. Category winners will receive a “Certificate of Accomplishment” and Gift Cards from local participating businesses. A “Best of Show” will be awarded to one winner, who may come from any of the five categories. Winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22nd, 2011 in the media and will have their artwork, their name and, for the students, the name of their teacher and school displayed at the Maricopa Library.

CONTEST RULES

1) All Maricopa students Grades K-12 and adults are eligible to compete in the contest.

2) Entries must be the original artwork of the entrant.

3) Artwork may be rendered in any medium.

4) Entry must include at least 51% post-consumer recycled material. Post-consumer recycled material is defined as material that has been previously used by a consumer and is being recycled into the art object for the contest. The following are examples of post-consumer recycled material: used paper, used plastic bottles, used metal cans, and used glass bottles. More than one post-consumer recycled material can be used in the entrant’s art object submitted for the contest.

5) A photo of the original recycled materials used prior to creating art is required. An official entry form (photocopies are acceptable) must be completed and securely attached to the photo of the original recycled materials used.

6) By submitting artwork, the artist grants permission to reproduce and display his or her name and artwork for the Earth Day Art Recycling Contest and for other waste reduction and promotion activities.

7) All entries become property of the contest sponsors and may be used for promotional purposes.  Photographs of all winners may be used in local publications and distributed to the media.

 

8) The use of copyrighted characters is prohibited. 

 

9) Entries must be submitted to the Recycling Coordinator at the Recycling Association of Maricopa by 2 pm Saturday April 2nd, 2011 located at 46250 W. McDavid Rd. in Maricopa.
